Latest for the race....30 SEP 09

XFL racers will need to devise methods to carry the units. a few of the units have carrying cases but not all. there is a lanyard loop on the back of the unit that can be used with zip ties. generally the devices should be outside of packs with a clear view of the sky if you want to get good regular transmission.. the antenna is under the SPOT logo.

each unit will have the racer's name and emergency contact info associated with it however it is important to communicate to the racers that we do NOT respond to --or even receive--911 destress signals from the unit. those signals go directly to the local 911 dispatch offices along the course.

i will share with you a unit operation cheat sheet that you should provide racers for using the device. its kind of tricky to get them into tracking mode. you will need to test them all as soon as you get them. none of the units will come with AA lithiums. they need them. XFL is short enough that units batteries will not be used. tell the riders to keep their batteries. they are not cheap and will only be 10% drained post-race.

Thanks,

Latest for the race....

Racers/Riders/Volunteer.

IF there is anything I can personally do to help you and keep your cost down for the event let me know.

I am willing to offer up space at my home floor space, couch space, backyard camping space, hammock hanging space, whatever you need if you need it to get up there the day before to help you guys out.

Just email me at nakedindian99 at aol dot com and let me know.

If not there are hotels in Deland Florida, which is the closest city to paisley with hotels. You can also camp at Clearwater lake.

Stay posted to the race blog for the most current updates and information.

spot tracker site is up, the link is a couple of post before this, what that will do it will allow your loved ones, friends or whomever to view your progress along the course and see how your doing. It also will let them know that your alive and well, and it also has a 911 button, in the event that something happens and you need help, you push that button, rescue will find you.

What else? Just holler at me, and let me know. The only thing I cant help with is transportation.

Map Update

It was pointed out to me the day we mapped the route, when we came out of Santos and crossed SR 200 we took a detour to get refreshments on the route to a convenience store.

This visit to the store is not part of the route.

The route has been edited and the GPX file has been updated, please update your cue sheets or GPS devices.

Updates and such...

The race clock is ticking and the big day draws near.

The spot units will be available and the route has been mailed off to create a site with the map so that the units will track on it.

Quite honestly I cant believe all the attention my little race has received and all the generous support from people outside the state. I can hardly get people in my own area to support it, but people from hundreds and thousand miles away willingly contribute to give rise and encourage the fine art of self supported touring.

Remember, On Race day, there will be a riders meeting at 5am. At that time we will give out the spot units as well as a brief tutorial on how to use them. AS well, there will be a "surprise" requirement the day of the race that every competitor will just have to deal with, LOL, its part of the fun folks. Remember to make a copy of the required photography and video checkpoints and to have a camera available. As well as remember to make sure you are as prepared as possible, although the course conditions are not difficult in terms of technical skills, the sheer vastness and the distance you cover will definetely make up for it. As well, what I love most about the route is that you get to experience that "big country, great wide open" feel that is sometimes not easily obtained in our "flat" state of Florida.

I am excited and look forward to seeing everyone at 5am on October 10th for the Mandatory riders meeting. IF anyone wants or needs a place to post up the night before, I am willing to provide camping space in my backyard to help you out and get you out there earlier, if not, you can try to find hotel lodging in Deland which is closest city to the race location. Good luck.

thanks, Looking forward to a great event and a history making ride!!!

LaSt ChAnCe

I am sending the final list for the SPOT devices today.

These SPOT devices will be provided to racers at no charge for the duration of the event. Once the race is over they will be boxed up and returned. There is no charge.

SO if your still interested in taking a shot at this fun little ride in October, email me at Nakedindian99 at aol dot com.

If not, I understand, maybe next year.

With these SPOT devices, people at home will be able to watch the race unfold from their very own living rooms.

FUN. They can keep track of the racers progress as they make their way across the course and they can see the drama of the action as it unfolds.

We are planning as well to have a Volunteer out on course taking pictures so we can get some live photos of the days event loaded up as it happens.

Exciting stuff!

Take Care,

CFiTT news Update: IMPORTANT SPREAD THE WORD.

Competitors.

There will be a riders meeting 5am on October 10th to make sure everyone has this information.

This course was laid out and was initially done as a TOUR and that is the tradition that will continue.

Riders will be forced to have FUN. Sorry, it is the nature of the event. In order to be scored accurately for the event some items for confirmation will be required and will allow future riders to help track their progress and scoring. In order to do this riders will have to have a camera.

At Silver Glenn, you are required to video tape yourself, going for a swim in the infamous glenn. Get a receipt of payment of entry fee as well.

At the Lake Eaton loop you are required to take a self portrait shot from each of the overlooks.

In the town of Eureka get a picture of the fire station on the course.

At santos, get a picture of the main information kiosk located at the trail head.

In Pruitt, get a picture of the pruitt memorial.

Get a picture of the Haltapaki reserve sign as you enter that part of the course.

Get a picture of the Canal as you start to ride next to it.

Get a picture of the big Caboose on the withlacoochee trail.

Finally, get a picture of the huge watch tower located at the tucker hill trail head.

Key element is to figure out how to get your camera to time stamp the pictures, not a huge deal.

There will hopefully be support from spot for the race and that will aid in scoring, but the picture and the mandatory sight seeing is part of the EVENT.

Hope you can appreciate the spirit of the adventure.

Finally and this is important.

The marshall swamp section of the route is considered to be part of the florida trail and is foot traffic only. IN this section racers are required to either A. Hike threw till you get to the bike path that takes you to the baseline trail head. or B. Take the alternate, which means you take 314 to baseline road, hang a left and then ride till you past the trail head and are back on the official course. Its up to you which route you take, but you cannot RIDE your bike threw the Marshall swamp section as it is part of the Florida trail and it is Foot Traffic only.

thanks,

LeTTers of INtent???

I have received two.

What I am trying to do, is talk to the company that makes the SPOT units and seeing if they will let me use some for the TT to make it spectator friendly.

So these are important. As it stands now, I dont even need it for the couple of riders I have showing up as they got good GPS units. But I would like to get other people involved, so Letters of intent are important.

If you are intending to attend, send me an email of your intention to participate, pretty please with Sugar on top.

If not, that's fine.

The special thing about this event is that its Unique, one of a kind experience for the sport of cycling in the state.

Nothing like this has been done before and it took a tiny lil man from the Central florida area to dream it up and make it happen.

Join the fun will ya.

Important CFITT UPDATE

Prospective CFiTT Competitors:

I have some good news.

We are removing the time restrictions for the race. In fact, as long as it takes you is a long as it takes.

Scoring is going to be worked out, but rest assured you will need a camera and a cell phone to be able to compete and get scored.

The bad news is that we mapped out the first 100 miles yesterday and it was Challenging. In fact, I expect in the first 15 miles someone to drop out and then the next 85 miles someone will drop out. And then by the time you reach Santos, everyone is gonna wanna stop. I see only the most elite athletes in the world being able to continue after you ride all the stuff we ride in the ONF. Its a tough course and I have some serious warnings that you need to consider. IF you think I am trying to scare you off, your right I am.

What I dont want is people to have any false hope or pretenses. This is truly a dirty event, as dirty as any of the Hundies that you find around the nation. The accumulated climbing from day one will have many competitors camping early. Its going to be a ball buster and every bit harder than you imagined it would be. It presents and requires you to have a combination of skills that some of you may simply not posses. I recommend you have a good escape route planned as this is a self supported race bound by the honor code and if you DNF you may want to have a friend on stand by to come retrieve you.

I want only the people who feel that they are up too and want this challenge to participate in this race. If you are questioning your abilities, I encourage you to stay home. There is no fee for this time trial, I am not profiting from it financially, so I have no problem telling people stay home, this is probably too hard for you.

DO NOT RIDE A CROSS BIKE AND JOIN THIS EVENT FULLY PREPARED FOR ANYTHING.

That is all,

thanks,

The NaKeD InDiaN

CFiTT news...

Well, all of the sudden there seems to be an increased curiousity about this ride and race. Sunday I am going to go GPX the first half of the route in preparation to get everyone what they need to be ready to race.

There is an inherent need in all of us, to push our limits and adventure further then we ever had before. A need to see another side of the place that we live in.

The route that I have layed out together with Rob Roberts, gives you a glimpse into off road touring that you never thought was possible in the wonderful state of Florida.

I know this is a new idea and a new concept so if anyone is interested and wants to participate and they have questions, I have an open ear and I am ready to answer. I am willing to share my ideas and concepts and experience.

This Sunday, Paisley MTB trailhead 7am, we are rolling out. If you want to join, just be there, but I tell you this. There will be single track, there will be road, there will be long climbs and there will be some beautiful sights to behold as we roll about 120 miles or less into Santos.

Come join the fun, challenge yourself, once the route is realeased its open to be enjoyed and toured at anytime by anyone.

Enjoy the fruits of my labor!

Thanks,

The NaKeD InDiaN

CFiTT news...

Please pass this around and announce to all who are interested.

We will be setting up a date to tour the route for the purpose of obtaining a good GPS file for the racers.

I have chosen to LINE UP and do head to head battle on the 3rd of October but everyone, racers and non racers alike are invited to join in.

On one Saturday or Sunday we will do Paisley to Santos, then the following weekend do Santos to Croom.

If anyone is interested in touring the route, email me at Nakedindian99 at aol dot com and I will keep you posted on the actual date, should be soon.

thanks,

Letters Of Intent

Naked Indian

My intent is to ride in the CFITT event. I realize that it will be tough and I'm training for it. Looking forward to it big time.. Thanks

Adalberto (Albert) Meneses

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mr. Samurai,

Let this serve as my letter of intent to race your CFITT challenge. Let this also serve as notice to the competition of my intentions concerning this race. I would like nothing better than to smack talk you all up and down the block but this race is not about that for me. I will race on a borrowed bike as hard as I can for as long as I can. This race is hopefully going to be a humbling experience. Whether for you or me remains to be seen. See you all at the start. Bring it.

Brett Wyckoff

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for the info.. I will be there, sounds like fun in a crazy sort of
way.. Write down Tom Rassiga from WPB as number 3. I have great gps and

I will not be satisfied till I reach Tucker Hill with my hands up in Celebration of my achievement and maybe the fastest time. The competition should fear me!!!

Thanks again for the Opportunity,
